Rhythm of the soul

Ask a Toddler - Music

Music is very special. It can mean so much on so many levels. Regardless of what genre of music: it resonates, it has impact. Our happiest moments as well as our darkest are all marked by music in some way or another.

It’s amazing how a combination of notes and a compilation of sounds can be so powerful. It can create a swell of emotion be it a ‘pick me up’, or a ‘come down’ and everything in between. Whenever there is a void to fill, we turn to our trusted tunes. There is a reason why music exists in all aspects of our lives, it’s because it makes us feel.

Music has always been a part of my life. Growing up I used to listen to my father play his favourite songs through our hi-fi system. In my early teens I started playing the drums and haven’t stopped ever since. I used to jam with my older brother who played the bass and dabbled in vocals too. I also combined my photography with music by following the live music scene for years. I still by CDs [mainly for the quality of sound rarely found in digital formats] and they’re always albums; I listen to them from start to finish; the way the artist intended it to be.

Music is truly a part of my life. I am most productive when music is playing. I am inspired by great music and let it take me to places I would never otherwise be able…the feelings that surface when playing music makes me feel human.

Music is the rhythm of the soul. Feel the rhythm, feel the beat, let those tunes play! How does it make you feel? What place does music have in your life?
