Deal with it

Ask a Toddler - Deal with it

There are so many distractions in our lives that we don’t have the time to deal with our problems anymore. Increasingly our capacity as human beings to confront setbacks and bounce back is being diluted by a focus on things that don’t [or at least shouldn’t] matter.

Maybe it’s just me but I get a sense that, whether it’s deliberate or not, we are getting distracted from our own reality. These distractions take many forms which are often related to our modern conveniences and ‘connected’ lifestyles. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against modern conveniences and lifestyles but when they perpetuate a situation of denial and distraction they can and will create a potentially destructive situation.

Perhaps these distractions are an outlet? The fact that our minds are otherwise occupied could be considered a positive…a focus on anything else is a good thing…but maybe they can also rob us of the time and mental capacity we need to deal with reality; our lives; the challenges; the setbacks; our relationships.

Avoiding confrontations with our own existence and reality can be a dangerous proposition. If we let things build up internally, all our issues; our trepidation, we can find ourselves on a self-destructive spiral downwards into an unrecognisable darkness.

Allocate yourself some headspace. Take the time out to confront yourself. To define yourself and your existence. To confront any inhibitions. Appreciate your reality. Deal with it!
