Tram No. 2092

Ask a Toddler - Tram No 2092

From A to B is what I do. I carry hundreds of people and I’m at the mercy of each and every one of them. This makes me very nervous. What helps me stay on track is the fact that I know where I’m going, my path is pre-determined. I was built by ABB Transportation and my traction is by AEG.

What helps me get through the long day are the things I talk about with my friends. These are my regular visitors, the familiar faces I greet every day as I automatically open my doors and welcome them with open arms…I’m sure they appreciate my hospitality, even though sometimes I can’t even offer them a seat.

I try and make sure my friends are safe. I tell them that my priority is their safety first. I ask my friends nicely: please do not speak to the driver while the tram is moving. Not because the driver doesn’t want to have a friendly conversation, but because I put safety first ahead of socialising. I can see what’s up ahead but I always make sure to let my friends know to hold on as sudden stops are sometimes necessary. I ask politely to keep the stairwell clear until doors have fully opened too.

BEWARE! In anyone’s language I weigh as much as 30 rhinos.

At times I feel like a moral compass…I have to ask people that, on request, certain seats must be vacated for use by people with special needs. Most people oblige.

I am Tram No. 2092 and I’m always glad to be at your service…even if I’m late sometimes and don’t have a seat for you to sit on. I find most of the time though people trust me and you know what, I trust them too…to touch their cards on my sensor.
