Φασούλι φασούλι

Ask a Toddler - Fasouli

‘Φασούλι φασούλι γεμίζει το σάκούλι’ – and in English: ‘fasouly fasouly yemizy to sakouly‘ translated from Greek means ‘bean by bean fills the sack’.

Growing up I remember hearing this phrase bandied around quite often both in relation to saving small amounts of money but also in the context of chipping away at a large task. It cemented in me from a very early age the power of putting one step in front of the other, no matter how long the journey.

This approach is so simple yet so effective and profound. It can mean so much in so many ways…you don’t need to be best at what you’re doing, you just need to persist bit by bit…any small amount of money adds up to large amounts…compound interest hurts…the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Next time you’ve got what seems an insurmountable task, chip away at it. Next time you have an opportunity to put away a small amount of money do it, it’ll add up. Never leave what can be done today for tomorrow. Persist and you will prevail.

Bean by bean you will fill the sack.
