Meandering Mondays IX

We all view the world in our own way. We bring a different perspective to all our observations and todays Meandering Monday IX is an example of just that: viewing things from a different angle.

Sagrada Família

Ask a Toddler - Sagrada Familia

The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família which is Catalan for Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family, is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona, Spain, designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926).

Though construction of Sagrada Família commenced in 1882, Gaudí became involved in 1883, taking over the project and transforming it with his architectural and engineering style, combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. Relying on private donations and interrupted by the Spanish Civil War, Sagrada Família’s construction progressed VERY slowly. Intermittent progress from the 1950s meant that construction only passed the midpoint in 2010 with some of the project’s greatest challenges remaining. Sagrada Família has an anticipated completion date of 2026, the centenary of Gaudí’s death. Yes from 1882 – 2026 to build a church!

I took this photo of Sagrada Família from a reflection of a discarded car mirror that was laying on the road. The area was so crowded with buses full of tourists coming and going. They would stop for a few moments so that all these people could point their cameras up in them same direction and shoot the same photo.

To capture this amazing construction and architectural oddity from a different angle than anyone else, I thought a little differently and observed what all these other thousands of people had observed on that day. I decided to look down.
