On edge

Ask a Toddler - Edge

Long days at work, lack of sleep and never finding time for yourself can drive the best of us to the edge.

We begin to feel frustrated over the little things that would usually go unnoticed. Our mood changes, our interactions with others become laborious and sometimes toxic. Our response to ‘what’s wrong?’ is ‘I’m tired’ effectively saying ‘leave me alone, go away’. The slightest protest from our kids triggers a barrage of negativity.

There are techniques that we can deploy to minimise the collateral damage that we often inflict on others when we’re on the edge. Remove yourself from the situation, focus only on the situation at hand and remove the negativity, and above all breathe. Don’t forget to breathe.

Taking a few deep breaths and closing our eyes momentarily makes the world of difference and relieves the pressure we all feel when we’re on the edge.
