Taking stock

Ask a Toddler - Taking Stock

I’ve been writing this blog for almost a year now since I decided to make the switch.

Every now and then I look back at some of the things I’ve written…sometimes I can’t even remember ever writing some of the posts here on Ask a Toddler! It’s a strange feeling. I know they’re all my words. I know that they are truthful. I know my posts captured how and what I was feeling at the time. I’m glad that I decided to share my thoughts with the world because as it turns out there are a few of you that keep on coming back! Thank you.

But not only do I feel like I’m making a very small contribution in my own way now and then, I also feel like I’m accumulating a supply of thoughts for future use. Taking stock of who I am. For future reference. For me. For my family. For my future self.

As Confucius once said:

Study the past if you would divine the future.

Despite this passage often being misquoted, it’s about understanding our past in order for us to define our future. Inversely, if we don’t understand our past, we will not be able to define our future. The future we want for ourselves and the world we live in. Take time to take stock, it’s all we have to rely on to inform us about the future we want to create.
