Redundancy

Ask a Toddler - Redundancy

Technology becomes redundant before you even have a chance to use it. That’s an accepted part of the industry. The next new thing is always already around the corner.

People can be made redundant too. Slowly over time our skills become outdated and need replacing as well. Sometimes it’s not because we are any worse at what we do but the same thing can be done for less elsewhere and so our local skills are no longer needed.

Often though technological redundancy and human redundancy are closely linked. As technology improves efficiency, human skill and interaction with these processes diminish. And so those human skills that are replaced with technology become redundant.

The only real way to deal with the redundancy issue is to never to stop learning. Never become complacent. Never stop growing as a human being. Never stop inquiring. Never stop contributing. By doing these things we become indispensable no matter how inefficient technology might make us look because we will always continue to add value.
